The age makes the Bosnian pine tree, a Pinus heldreichii nicknamed Adonis, the oldest single tree in Europe, researchers said. To determine the age, they extracted a core from the tree and counted the rings. According to the scientists from Stockholm University (Sweden), the University of Mainz (Germany) and the University of Arizona (USA), the tree growing in Northern Greece is over 1,075 years old, miking it urrently the oldest known living tree in Europe.
